The Beginning of London Yu Hua Chinese School
London Yu-Hua Chinese School (倫敦宇華中文學校) was established in 2003. We founded the school with the aim of cultivating professional Mandarin teachers who see themselves promoting profound Chinese culture and language.
The original characters of Yu-Hua school: '育華'
"Yu (育) means ‘to cultivate’; and Hua (華) means ‘Mandarin’."
This name reflected our desire that every participant our school could immerse themselves in beautiful Chinese language, arts and culture. - Lu-Yu Huang, Head Teacher
The new characters of Yu-Hua school: ‘宇華’
In 2014, London Yu-Hua Chinese School changed its Mandarin name from '育華' to '宇華' to reflect our expanding ambitions and expectations. The character '宇' (also pronounced ‘yu’), originally meant ‘space and time’. It gradually developed into the meaning of ‘the universe’. Nowadays, the Chinese word "宇" has connotations of macrocosm and worldwide extension. There are many ways to translate Mandarin characters into English, but one way to translate ‘宇華’ is ‘expanding and promoting Mandarin’.
We welcome talented participants from different specialities to integrate into the Yu-Hua family, spreading and sharing the knowledge of the Chinese language. It is our hope that more and more people will be able to learn and speak in Mandarin in daily or business conversation.
